MARCH 4, 2012 - SUNDAY

We woke to a pretty sunny day, so we got on the Natchez Pky. to ride to our next campsite. We saw a lot of scenic views along the way. At one point we walked down wooden stairs & across a wooden bridge where these strange looking tree stumps were sticking out of the swamp water & we saw a baby alligator sunning on a log in the water. We also went through a section where a sign said "tornado damage - April, 2011" it was around 15 miles of damage. We stopped at several more points of interest then realized that we had about 150 miles to our next campsite & it was already 2:00 p.m. The Pky. is without lights and we wanted to be off it before it got dark.Around 4:00 we called the park where our next campsite was to check on our reservations & get directions . The park ranger said the office was just opened till 5:00, but our site was marked reserved so we can just go to it. He was very nice, but he had a very southern accent (we were of course in southern Miss.) and it was hard to understand his directions. As luck would have it, we missed the entrance to the park & had to drive several miles to find a place to turn around, you just can't turn around a 31 ft. motor home pulling a car just anywhere. We ended up on a very narrow, winding road not in the best part of town, & the sun was going down fast. We realized we were going the wrong way and again had to find a spot to turn around. I was getting very nervous because of the area we were in. Finally we found an entrance to the park and located our campsite and they did have our name on a reserve sign. It was already dusk around 6:00, but we managed to get the RV level & hooked up. There was several more RV's near by. Richard started a fire in the pit and we had hambergers outside by lantern light. It was a nice night, no breeze. Being that we were in a state park we had no TV or internet so I couldn't do the blog, so we played cards (spades) outside by lantern light. We were really tired after driving 8 hours, so we went to bed early.
