MARCH 1, 2012 - THURS.
We woke to a sunny (70's) day. We started on our way to TN. It was a nice ride, hardly any wind, thank goodness! We got to our next campsite in Dickson, TN. It is a small, nothing fancy RV park, but the owners are very nice & helpful. After we got to our site & got the RV leveled - because we don't have automatic levelers like the newer RV's , Richard made special boards to put under the tires. First he checks inside the RV with a digital level to see what side needs the boards (it has to be level for the refrigerator to work) it takes a while to get the boards in place & drive the RV up on them then check again to be sure it is level. So that done he plugged into the electric post at our site, & no electricity. Of course Richard has with us (along with many tools) a "multi meter" which checks for electrical "juice" - it was a campsite problem because we had electricity from the RV's battery. The mgr. said we could move to another site, but being that we were already level, it would be a big deal to move. Then Richard remembered he had brought along a heavy duty extension cord. There was no one on the site next to us, so the mgr. said it would be o.k. to use that electrical post, so thanks to Richard's fast thinking, it worked out. It was early afternoon so we decided to go to Camden, TN (in our car) which is about 1 hr. away to visit the only Fresh Water Pearl Farm in Northern America. We read that they have water tours which show how the pearls are collected. So we get there and find out that the water tours don't start till May! We did tour the museum & watch a video on how the pearls are harvested from a seed placed in a shell and put into nets in the water for a minimum of 5 years! It was interesting, so it wasn't a wasted trip. Tomorrow we are headed for the Natchez Trace Parkway, which is a scenic ride of 444 miles, which will take us to our next campsite. Hope the weather stays nice.
