MARCH 2, 2012 - FRIDAY
We woke around 5:00 a.m. to a lightening thunderstorm, but by 6:00 the sun came out & it was about 72 degrees. We started out for the Nathcez pky. which I mentioned yesterday. We drove about 250 of the 444 miles. It is a very nice ride with many scenic views. The pull-over views are very RV friendly, but commercial trucks are not allowed on the pky. The ride is very curvy & the wind picked up, but Richard did great. We got off the pky. at Trace National Park where we had campsite reservations for Sat.We asked if our reservation money ($20) could be used for today being that we were a day early. They said the computer would not allow that to be done (park rules) So we decided to pay for an extra night & stay here 2 nights, or else just lose $20. They did give us a senior rate of $14 for the extra night (being that we were over 65, there are some advantages to being old!) The park ranger told us that sever weather was expected later & if that be the case, there is a meeting room across from the campsites we should go to. After we got the RV all hooked up & level, we decided to go into the town & get a fish sandwich being that it is Fri. & it is lent. So we got in our car & left the park. Would you believe we drove about 15 miles & did not see one fast food place - no McDonalds, no Berger King, not even a restaurant. This is Tupelo, Miss.! We realized we must be on the outskirts of the city (not very fancy), so we went back to our campsite & had tomato soup & salad. As I am writing this it just started pouring rain, but the RV isn't swaying yet, so maybe it won't get sever, just rain - I hope! So I'll sign off in case we lose the internet.
